Sanborn is a geospatial industry leader in the development of innovative methods for the extraction of valuable information from base map data. The various types of information that can be derived from base map data can be used to support any number of complex issues associated with the demanding requirements of asset and land management.
We employ a combination of imagery processing techniques, photogrammetric compilation, and GIS-based mapping methodologies to extract data features from imagery. This information can be used to support complex natural resource, environmental, planning, or spatial analysis problems.
What is Planimetric Data?
Planimetric feature extraction involves the creation of maps that show only the horizontal position of features on the Earths’ surface, revealing geographic objects, natural and cultural physical features, and entities without topographic properties. Topographic features not captured such as roads, buildings, and bodies of water that are visible and identifiable on aerial photographs can be compiled into map features through photogrammetric surveying procedures. The Sanborn Planimetric mapping products reveal map features that illustrate the surface categories found here.
Sanborn has great experience digitizing planimetric mapping data from aerial photography for use as a base layer of a GIS. With speed and consistency intrinsic to our data processing, Sanborn produces accurate and aesthetically pleasing planimetric data that can meet the specifications of any GIS.
