Sanborn Contour Maps products are mapping datasets that display highly accurate contour lines showing equal elevation that correspond to the orthometric heights of the bare earth surface. The contour lines and contour intervals depict elevation / altitude and depth, illustrating the general terrain for an area. Improvements in aerial data acquisition and production methodologies have increased the accuracy of current topographic maps, while helping to reduce the time needed to create them. To develop topo maps, aerial data acquisition is used primarily (supplemented by ground survey where necessary) as larger areas can be mapped more efficiently than through conventional survey methods.

Contour Maps Technical SpecificationsSanborn offers two types of topographic mapping products, each deliverable at varying technical specifications relative to the acquired digital terrain model (DTM).

Typical uses for Sanborn Contour Maps Include:

  • Floodplain Analysis
  • DOT Route Location
  • Emergency Response

  • FEMA Mapping
  • Coastal Engineering
  • Storm Water Management
  • Disaster Preparedness

  • Water Supply and Quality Monitoring
  • Land Transportation and Safety
