Specifically designed to meet fire planning, mitigation
and fire incident response requirements, Sanborn's WRIP
provides quantifiable measures of wildfire risk for
all of California.
The California Wildfire Risk Information Product (WRIP)
is a set of thematic GIS datasets that describe the
level of wildfire risk on a per pixel basis for all
of California. This product satisfies a requirement
to help fire prevention specialists, wildland-urban
interface coordinators and fire planners develop prevention
and mitigation action plans to reduce the risk to the
public and property. The product is ideal for developing
Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPPs).
Benefits:
Using the product fire planners can easily identify
those areas most prone to a wildfire occuring, as well
as those areas where mitigation and prevention is best
suited. In addition, during fire incidents the product
identifies areas where fire is most likely to spread
and where severe damage can occur. This aids incident
staff in allocating resources to the most prone areas.
Applications:
- Identify areas and communities most at risk
to wildfire
- Hazardous fuels reduction and mitigation project planning
- Identify areas where prevention is a priority
- Communicate wildfire risk to the public and other
agencies
- Quantify
the reduction in risk due to mitigation projects
- Optimize resources positioning for fire incidents
- Budget planning and resource allocation
